YVETTE AUDAIN (NZ) Yvette Audain is a composing musician born and resident in Auckland, New Zealand. Her instruments are clarinet, saxophone, recorder and Irish whistle. She holds a Master of Music in composition from Victoria University of Wellington, a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in composition and ethnomusicology from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Music in composition and clarinet from the University of Auckland, where she also completed the requirements towards a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary). She currently teaches clarinet, saxophone and composition in several Auckland schools. Awards and scholarships Yvette received while at university include the Bishop Junior and Senior Scholarships, the Llewellyn Jones Prize in music for piano, a graduate scholarship from the New Zealand Federation of University Women, and several prizes at the Auckland University Lilburn Trust Composition Prize Concerts. In 1998 she was awarded second place in the Sky City Community Trust Auckland Wind Orchestra Composers' Competition. Yvette's musical experience encompasses jazz (Darktown Strutters; Brett's New Internationals; the Frank E. Evans Band), classical (New Zealand Opera; Waitakere City Orchestra), folk (Doris; seisiuns and folk festivals throughout New Zealand), concert band (Auckland Wind Orchestra; the Band of the Wellington and Hawkes Bay Regiment; the Royal New Zealand Navy Band), free improvisation (Vitamin S) and film soundtracks (No. 2, music by Don McGlashan). She has had her music workshopped and recorded by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and currently, in particular, looks forward to extending her compositional trajectory through further improvisational performance. www.yvetteaudain.com |
