GONCALO LOURENCO (PT)

Images and feelings. That’s the main goal of my writing. I want to communicate with the audience and make a fusion between music and people, trying to unify them as one; that’s a life time quest. That unification is a continued work of the score: orchestration, melody, harmony, structure and resonance. When you get all these elements in action, you can create all the sensations you want, and the best feeling is, when somebody at the audience comes to you and says that it was worthy to leave home to listen your music.

GONCALO LOURENCO was born in Lisbon in 1979. He got a degree on Educational Psychology at the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa. He finished the course at the Conservatório de Setúbal in 2001 and at the present is attending the third year of composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he has been working with Christopher Bochmann and Sérgio Azevedo.
He also participated in courses of choral conducting mainly, the “First International Course of Vocal Music Luisa Todi 1998” and from 1999-2004 in the “Aveiro International Courses of Vocal Music” where he worked with singers Claire Vangelisti and João Lourenço and Maestros António Vassalo Lourenço and Paulo Lourenço.
From June 1999 to June 2000 he conducted Grupo Coral de Lágos. In 2004 he founded Odyssea Choir well as Coro da Universidade Lusófona and has been conducting the two of them.
He also attended the “Workshop da Orquestra Gulbenkian para Jovens Compositores 2003” and “2º Workshop da Orquestra Gulbenkian para Jovens Compositores 2004” where we had the opportunity to work with composer Emmanuel Nunes and with Maestro Guillaume Bourgnone. Moreover, his work “Tentativas” was performed by Orquestra Gulbenkian for the first time and the piece “Néctar”, for fourteen instruments was interpreted by soloists of the same orchestra.
His work has become known abroad and commissioned by Maestro Gunnstein Olafsson he got the opportunity to show his work “Ça va?!” in Iceland performed by the “Young Musicians orchestra of Iceland”; in Brasil guitarist Rodrigo Rios commissioned and played “Dunego” for String Quartet and Guitar and in USA Maestro J.D. Goddard and the Mastersingers of Ohio performed four Christmas Motets.
